Sew mama Sew giveaway

Hello all!  Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blog world.  I am running a little behind this morning.  I have a terrible headache and just can't think straight, but I am working through it.  We have have had a bit of winter weather here in Arkansas (2 in of ice and 6+ in of snow).  I think this cabin fever may have spurred a migraine.  As you can imagine we are not used to this much winter weather and not for this long (been here since Thursday).  It sure is pretty thought!

Ok on to why you are really here.  I will be giving away 6 fat quarters and a lovely quilting quickly magazine.  It is the winter 2013 issue.  I will ship anywhere.  All you have to do is leave a comment to enter.  How about gift ideas for my girl tween (a kid that is not a teen but acts like and is almost one).  I just have no good ideas, she has everything anyway.  If you are a follower or want to become one leave me a comment letting me know for an extra entry.  Thanks again for stopping by and don't forget all the other giveaways.  Giveaway is open till December 13 at 5 pm, random number generator will select the winner!

  1. I don't have any kids so I can't help you out on your quest for a gift. Don't know what to get my nephews either.

  2. how about a Mall gift card? That way she can go to any store in the mall, and get what she would like.

    ReplyDelete
  3. That's a tricky challenge. I would give her a journal or scrapbook, along with some embelishments or fabrics to decorate it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. What about a gift certificate for a mani & pedi? Or for a spa day?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Art Supplies! I've never met a tween that didn't love art/crafting supplies!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm not sure what to suggest about a gift but I know that when I give my niece (10 yr old) amazon.com gift cards she's happy enough --and she gets what she wanted. Win in my book! LOL.

  9. i am so sorry about your migrane, i suffer from them too. i am not going to say electronics because she probably has all them that she needs. how about i mom and daughter day? pedicures, manicures, lunch at her choice and a shopping trip? my daughter passed away in my arms and i dont have anymore kids, but when she was that age i would take her shopping. and we would compromise on her choice of clothes. she would pick one and i would pick one and we would compromise on something in the middle.thank you for a fantastic giveaway babscorbitt@gmail.com

  12. A book - so much variety and such a great thing to get into. I loved the Anne of Green Gables books as a kid.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That's a hard age to buy for....Thank goodness mine are all grown and I just give grandkids money so they can buy themselves whatever they want.

    ReplyDelete

  21. I don't have any specific ideas, but anything that seems adult. Like pearl earrings.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks for the chance! And that's a tough one... That's such a difficult age! I'd say probably a gift care so she can just pick herself? Not as personal, but maybe better for her?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Probably something that involves Justin Bieber ¡? Best wishes from Argentina!

    ReplyDelete
  24. The standard. Nail polish. Something for an interest. (for example my MIL loves snoopy and can never have enough) Take her someplace she hasn't been, ex. disneyland.

    ReplyDelete
  25. A gift certificate to a night out with Mom. Sewing lessons by yourself, that's worked with 5 of my grand daughters. A great book series to read together. Yarn and a crochet hook. A makeover or nail night. Good luck and have fun.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hmm, since I am a teen myself (well, I am 18) I might be some help. I think a great gift would be a gift certificate for a manicure or pedicure for both of you. I always love getting my nails done with my mom.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My tween girl wants fancy slippers and a cupcake decorating set - the tips and bags I think! She also likes nice art supplies and jewelry making kits.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Music, e reader books, gift cards, ear rings. Is she crafty, maybe a jewelry kit?

    ReplyDelete
  29. My tween nieces are asking for various gift cards so they can pick what they want. Amazon is a good one since they can get almost anything there! Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I can't help you much on the gift ideas because I have two grown boys and have no idea what tween girls like. Thank you for sharing! anglanouette at gmail dot com

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd say a sewn handbag with some cool fabric, like the Ghastlies, a purse and a make-up pouch, maybe even a mobile phone bag. Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's been a little while since I had a tween but did occasionally treat my youngest to a crafting class that we did together. Not sure if having fun with your Mum would be a popular choice for a young person these days...but I'd still like the chance to do it again.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Books on your local natural history??

    ReplyDelete
  34. Let her pick out fabrics for her own quilt/throw. Regardless of their age, they love quilts. Maybe something in some of the Japanese fabrics which are really fun for tweens.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I had two boys and always wished I had a girl to buy for. How about some beads and tools to make jewelry.

    ReplyDelete
  36. A tween can always use a funky bag - consider a blinged-up tote maybe..... I'm very sorry to hear about your head, and I hope it eases soon - Merry Christmas, :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. does she like sewing or any other crafts? what about a "sew yourself" bag kit?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  38. For smaller gifts I always got my daughter gift cards to fast food places like subway or sonic that were close to her school. That way when she is out with her friends she always has a way to grab a quick snack

    ReplyDelete
  39. I had sons so this is a difficult question for me, how about a cosmetic pouch filled with hand and foot creams, moisturizers - all that good stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Could you take her shopping in the sales after Christmas, but on the day itself give her a mom token to the value of $x including lunch? I'm not a parent so I don't know if that would go down well or not.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow. That is a hard question to answer! My son is at that "awkward" gift age too, and it is hard! He likes Lego still, so that is a big help. What about a "Rainbow Loom" that makes bracelets with small colorful rubber bands?

    ReplyDelete
  42. A friend of mine did a beginner sewer basket for her daughter. Find a good sized basket with lid, pad the lid with some pretty fabric, and fill with sewing goodies and tools. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Books! Especially more "classic" ones.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think that age group enjoys those funcky tennis shoes and wild socks.

    ReplyDelete
  45. oh dear, I'm afraid I have no idea. I have no kids... money?
    I

    ReplyDelete
  46. How about a coupon for a Mommy and Daughter dinner and a movie. My tween really wants to feel grown up and spend time with me.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I took my tween to the shoe store and had her pick out a pair of combat boot (cute) and red tennis shoes from some name brand she had to have. I plan to wrap them up and make her act surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  48. How about some Bath & Body Works bath supplies in some fun young scents?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thats a hard one. My daughter likes to draw and has her own laptop. I bought a bamboo tablet, and she uses it to draw on the computer. You can use it as a mouse also. Then if she doesn't have a tablet, maybe one of those? She will need it for school soon anyway. If she doesn't do the computer, perhaps art supplies? Like real ones, not the kid version. I loved books, and they have a lot of young adult books now. You can check out some titles on Goodreads.com perhaps. Those bracelets from Michael's are really popular. I haven't noticed them around where I live, but I heard they are popular. Cross stitch? Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery is SO cute: http://thefrostedpumpkinstitchery.bigcartel.com/ I actually have the yearlong one on my Christmas list. There are 3 of them. Here is a store that sells them: http://kitschydigitals.com/, and other cute things! You can buy the floss at Walmart that isn't expensive, and some of the patterns are a few bucks. There are also felt stuffed animals that you can make. Perhaps she will like them, and can design her own and get the material at Walmart/Joann's inexpensively. Those are my ideas! Hope you can think of something.

  52. How about a Kindle Reader? Or have you let her design a quilt you make for her or help her make one.

    senstrings (at) yahoo (dot) com

    ReplyDelete
  53. That's a hard one. Instead of an item how about an experience. Take her for a mom daughter day out complete with a spa day, hair, manicure, a little shopping and a just you two lunch or dinner. If that isn't her cup of tea I'm sure there are things around that she wants to do. My neighbor just took her 13 yr old and a friend to the Great Wolf Lodge for a day of games, indoor swimming and general fun. She will remember that gift long after anything material.

    ReplyDelete
  54. How about a rainbow loom?

    dewiec(at)yahoo(dot)ca

    ReplyDelete
  55. You have a hard gift to give. But I think a gift card to her favorite shop would be the answer. It's better then her taking something back ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. How about a mother daughter cooling class?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I would give her a guitar or an ukulele. That is fun, and just right for her age!

    jachelno(at)gmail(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  58. emmevon(at)gmail(dot)com
    pj pants for a tween!

  59. Nothing better than gift cards...except fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  60. My 11-yo daughter has asked for boots for Christmas. She also enjoys crafts so I may get her some Sculpey clay.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I would be no help with a tween girl since I had two boys! Of course, a gift card would be appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Let's see... books, art supplies, sparkly nail polish, hmmmm... those Klutz books with various activities were always super fun! Wishing you good luck! :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. I made monogram cushions for my nieces and they loved them - they were large and awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. How about making her a nice bag and putting different gift cards in it? maybe some to spend online so she can shop on Christmas and not have to wait.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Tweens...an experience, like horseback riding, a ride in a glider, hand gliding, zip lining, spa, skiing, concert.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Depending on the tween - it can be easy or very hard. If she's got the crafting bug like you, perhaps a gift card to a local craft store. Maybe some girlie things like a mom/daughter's day out a spa for a mani & pedi?

    ReplyDelete
  67. We don't have the ice and snow but it is very cold and we are not used to it and we don't have the clothes for it. I live in AZ where it gets over 100 8 months out of the year. Very nice giveaway, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  68. hmm, if she doesn't have one already may be a simple sewing machine. It is never to early to start to teach the art of sewing. Trust me, she will thank you as my three girls thank me.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Get her something that will teach her a new skill - e.g. if she does not know how to knit some bulky yarn and big needles etc...

    ReplyDelete
  70. I am having trouble getting my 16 yr old neice a gift, too. I have boys so I am clueless what a 16yr old girl would like, besides an 18yr old boyfriend. I think I am going to get her jewelry. Jewelry is always good.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I find the best things to get my kids, are things that foster a hobby.. craft supplies, writing supplies, baking, drawing...what does she enjoy making/doing? good luck and thanks for the nice giveaway. Merry Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  76. make some journal covers and scarfs are hot for tweens right now

    ReplyDelete
  77. How about a gift cert. for some clothing and then follow up with a shopping trip and a movie or dinner?

    ReplyDelete
  78. We always end up giving my step daughter a mall gift card.

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's hard to say something specific because I don't know her, but I'd suggest giving an experience rather than an item. When I was about that age I was thrilled when my parents got me a ticket to a concert I wanted to see, for example.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Hope your migraine gets better...I know what those feel like...ouch. How about an amazon gift card? There is such a variety of stuff on amazon, she's sure to find something there she likes. (I got one this year and had fun picking out some books.)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Not sure how much help I can be as my daughter is now almost 23.
What about offering to let her pick out any craft she would like to try and
you will get her the starting materials, be it writing, drawing, painting, or
    possibly photography.

    ReplyDelete
  82. How about giving her something completely different from what you would normally give? If you would normally give techy stuff, give her a simple handmade item.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I would suggest a guitar... this is about the age we gifted our daughter her first guitar to keep her mind and fingers busy... she has taken off with it!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Craft project she could make and wear. (braclets, hair accessories, etc) or get her into quilting, baking.
    24Tangent@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  85. Some very good suggestions by the ladies above. I know that a diary with a tiny lock and key was one I treasured at that age...back in the dinosaur days!! LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  86. How about a bag? Doesn't every girl, especially one growing up into a young woman *cough* teenager, need a nice bag?

Thanks so much for the chance to win! Love batiks!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I would do a craft store gift card in a new purse. Thanks for chance to win.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  89. Maybe you could get her an external battery pack for charging her devices? My husband has one kinda like this http://www.amazon.com/5000mAh-External-Rechargeable-Battery-Android/dp/B00852Y722
I hope your head is feeling better!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Does she need a cover for one of her electronics, say she owns a phone and it needs a sewn cover. Or you could give her an Etsy card and tell her to buy something handmade that way you support the small business's.

    ReplyDelete
  91. How about a gift certificate to take an online class of her choice at Craftsy?

    ReplyDelete
  92. My teens always liked pillowcases that showed their interests, seasons or even teams. Also zip bags with the same type of fabrics. Good for putting all sorts of things in.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think the best thing to give someone that is a tween is the gift of giving.. Perhaps a project that she can do that will be sent to kids her own age. A good one for her age is edging fleece blankets with an edgeroo and a bit of crochet. Buy her labels that she can sew on the edge to define her meaning of her gift. Perfect for kids with cancer. Scary hospital stays in cold buildings. The Ronald McDonald House? Foster Kids? Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  94. You can't go wrong with clothes from one of the 'teen' stores, AE, or Aero . Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  95. How about a new bag for school. Something the both of you make together. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  99. IS she into music - what about a download gift voucher, or on a different note, a fabric basket/box to store desk items in??

    ReplyDelete
  100. Gift cards, journals and art supplies, knitting and craft supplies and if Santa is really generous her own sewing machine. Just trying to remember what my girl would have liked at that age. Good luck choosing.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I too am iced and snowed in here in Arkansas. I think a gift card is the way to go

    ReplyDelete
  102. I like the idea of a mother/daughter spa day -- mani/pedi and maybe out to lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'd give a gift card and take her out to lunch and then to the store to spend it after Christmas when the sales are good.

    ReplyDelete
  104. New bloglovin follower: Nicole Sender.

    ReplyDelete
  105. is there some kind of interest she seems to "collect"? If she likes painting her nails, does she seem to collect nail polish? Is she crafty like her mother? that one would be too easy lol. Maybe a gift card to a clothing store? everyone has some sort of thing they like and would be happy if they had more of. Every single person I know knows I love sewing and crafty stuff, and stuff for the kitchen. So that's usually what I get, and I'm always ecstatic.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Oh geez - luckily I'm not at that pre-teen age yet. How about an experience instead of an object? Like concert tickets or a trip to a water park. That sort of thing. Good luck! :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. How about an experience? Going to get your nails done together or some other thing that would be a treat for her. Thanks for this chance!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I follow you with blog lovin.' Happy holidays!

    ReplyDelete
  124. How about theme pillow cases? You can use novelty fabric to match her interests. My tween grandies love them!

    ReplyDelete
  125. My tween daughter is getting books and craft kits.

    ReplyDelete
  126. how about a fingernail polish kit with the sparkles you can add to your fingernails.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'd love a chance to win, thanks for the giveaway!

As for gifts, I've always loved books and I think that's one you can never have enough of. Otherwise, perhaps there's a one-time, tiny bit more expensive, makeup/cream/soap/perfume type she's been longing for for a long time? Music perhaps? Or otherwise give her a day out with mom? ;) A High Tea together or perhaps there's a fun museum near?

    ReplyDelete
  128. A movie basket. Get her some tickets to a local theater something she can do with her friends. You can drop her off...Alone time for you and she gets to feel "older" by going alone with her friend?

    Thanks for the chance!
